In southern countries
Ciss projects face some of the principal issues on human development: human rights promotion, women rights, infancy protection; profit production in marginal areas, both rural and urban; water supplies and natural resources; support to refugees and to displaced persons, rural development.
Ciss actions are based on the conception that relations between North and South have to be balanced in favour of the periphery and that underdevelopment problems both in Italy and in the third world countries have a common fundamental matrix: that is why it is required a constant effort and it is important that underdeveloped countries cooperate between them, through a process of constant thinking and practical experiencing in order to supply the required answers to development problems all over the world Our actions are implemented by direct economical support, providing the necessary concrete and technical tools and by sending volunteers and cooperators.
These interventions are generally supported by different fund sources through co-financing measures: the Ciss principal partners and other insitutions (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, EU, UNO Agencies, local insitutions) support from 50to 70 per cent of the total project cost. The remaining part is financed by means of private donors and local conventions.
Since its foundation the Ciss has carried out and is still carrying out more than 50 long-time projects (whose duration is generally three years) and more than 200 short-time projects (whose duration is 6 months/ 1 year) in the field of international cooperation.
At present time Ciss has implemented solidarity and international cooperation programmes in South America (Bolivia, Brazil, Venezuela), Central America and Caribe (Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras), Africa (Ivory Coast, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania, Congo/Brazaville, Kenya, Congo/Kinshasa, Tunisia, Sudan), Middle East, Balcans
