While doing a volunteer project in Palermo, Italy, I participated in training on arrival. As a volunteer, I now belong to the ESC (European Solidarity Corps), a community full of different people and cultures, experiences and new ideas. During this week, we had a lot of good food and the people who participated in this training were very surprising. I enjoyed a lot this week.
Now I would like to introduce you my training week.
My experience started with a long travel day to arrive in Frascati. I had to take two trains, a flight, the metro and a bus to arrive there!!! On the first day, we had activities and games to get to know each other and practice team building. I was very tired due to the long travel day, but the afternoon was very enjoyable.
During the second day, we had activities related to our ESC project and the meaning of solidarity. We discussed different subject related to volunteering such as volunteers’ rights and duties and our volunteering experience, but also the practical tools such as the Youthpass.
On the third day, we were involved in a video editing workshop related to our volunteer projects. It wasn’t that easy and we had some technical issues, but in the end we luckily managed to produce a very good video!!! Our team made a small ad and we won and the “Oscar” for the best video! During the workshop we addressed also other topics such as movies, fiction, animation, and documentary video clips.
During my OAT, we also spent an entire day in Rome! During the visit, we visited the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and we have also spent some time in a beautiful garden.
It has been a wonderful day, Rome is a very beautiful city!
This was a very funny day, probably my favorite one. We talked about future opportunities; we discussed, for example, what a good CV looks like, about culture and personal development and skills.
After that, we played some games. This day was particularly fun, because we have the opportunity to share something with others. We had, for example, a Russian and Arabic courses ;،a class of drawing; and a cooking class. I made a class of Arabic teaching. Since there were a lot of people wanting to learn Arabic, I taught an introductory course. This thing made me really happy. I discovered that I am good at teaching, and this was an amazing experience. It was a great day!
On the sixth day, we have created a radio show! At the beginning, it was strange to hear my voice on the headphones, but the recording was funny! I never had this kind of experience, so it was interesting to talk to the microphones with headphones like a real radiospeakers does! .. Honeslty, I do not think I am very good as radio-speaker, but I was supported by a great team! We all have something to learn, I guess!
Finally (and unfortunately) the day of departure arrived. We had to leave very early. Then we had some games, in one of them we created small figures with the clay to express our impression of the week and our emotions. We were all very happy and we created wonderful masterpieces! Then we had to fill out a short questionnaire, and the really good thing was that everyone could write something for someone else: We put the paper on our back and others could write something. It was nice to read them! After lunch, the bus took us back to the metro station where everyone can return to the places where we are carrying out our volunteer projects. It was extremely sad to leave all these people and this place!
But It was an amazing week that will stay in my memory forever.
